Jedi Robe! by jon samuel on Wed Jan 30, 2008 6:47 pm
Here's my first try!
I've seen pics of custom Jedi Robes before and I noticed, for the most part, that they weren't easily removable, so I designed this one, which consists of two complete sections (hood and robe) that are easy to put on a minifig and allows for the hood to be flipped back.
I still haven't decided if the sleeves are a bit too long or not. It does seem to add an element of Jedi-cool/Lego-cute to the fig having longer sleeves.
The reason the robe is slightly off-colour in various places is that I used superglue to piece segments of the robe together and it made a bit of a mess. In an attempt to clean up I went over the excess glue with a black marker. It's not that easy to see with the naked eye, but the camera managed to capture the ink quite well, d'oh.
I wasn't sure how large the images should be when posting, so I made them small! You can always see larger ones on my site anyway.
Thoughts?

That doesn't look too bad Jon. A little more attention to detail and you will have something the will look great.
Just out of curiosity: Does it require you to remove the arms in order to assemble it? (Don't worry, I'm not fishing for ideas )
Cheers,
MMCB

Thanks MMCB!
I'm not worried, you have plenty enough ideas of your own and everybody knows it.
No, I managed to make it in such a way that the robe slips on without needing to remove any limbs! Ofcourse, the head still needs to come off to get the hood on. I've got a few ideas that might help improve the design, but that'll have to wait 'til tomorrow.
Your tips are always appreciated, so please don't hold back! =D

Great work! I once tried to make a robe that didnt require you to remove the arms to put it on. It ended up in the trash. I just couldnt do it, but I did learn how to make sleeves by themselves

That is very good espically for a first time, but the hood could be a little smaller. Mind you, I couldn't do any better

That looks great!
Is that all one piece or did you use glue at some parts?

Thanks for all the comments guys!
And thanks to MMCB for being there with the answers!
I'd like to say I've been working hard on improving the design, but between actually doing some study and catching up on some 360-ing, I haven't done much work on the robes.

I finally got around to improving the design on my robes. I can now do them with seperate sleeves for less bulk and more posability, as pictured below.
There's more pics on my site as per usual.

I like the way it is built in seperate pieces. That means you could just use the hodd or just use the cloak and sleeves. Great work!

Not sure if this is off topic or anything, but I realized something interesting about this coat (aside from its total awesomeness). With a couple adjustments and some rougher fabric, this could turn out to be an all right ghilly suit for a sniper!

That's quite an idea Sam ...
Hmm ...
I'm in London for the holidays and don't have much Lego with me to work on projects, so this idea of yours will give me something to do for a day or two.
... rough green fabric ...
I'll get working on that, but in the meantime: check this out...
(there's more pics of lil' Annie here on my site)

I know its a jedi robe,I just couldn't see his face, that's why I made the comment. No offense, I just thought it would look better without the hood on.

That's one cute Jedi Robe! Plus I didn't know that there's already a star wars lego set. I must be way behind now! But in all I think the robe is really a nice touch! Dentist Alta Monte Springs | Alta Monte Springs Dental
