 Arealight's Magnificent mid-year Scoot-a-bration!! by Kaminoan on Tue Jul 01, 2008 2:46 pm
Arealight's Magnificent mid-year Scoot-a-bration!!
Arealights' Magnificent Motorcycle Mayhem Shop is needing to break ground and he needs your help. He has loads of inventory waiting to be delivered to the AMMMS for the mid-year Scoot-a-bration. Everything must go go go go!!! In order for your favorite figure to drive a scooter off the lot, there has to be a lot to drive it off, so help him by building a store front and lot. This would be like most car/motorcycle lots for his scooters to be sold from (figuratively speaking). So it is up to you to construct the Motorcycle and Scooter Bike store. Why is Arealight so crazed about an AMMMS? Well he is wanting to highlight his scooter, which he is bringing back after popular demand.
You can construct it in any style you desire, be it hard core biker, weekend resort, European getaway, or whatever.
*The scenes appearance need a shop with a motorcycle on the property (so to speak), and it must be to minifigs scale.
*LEGO and custom motorcycles are welcome, at least one is required.
*You can use baseplates, bricks, or any other parts to make the base platform of the shop. The shop must sit on a platform of LEGO elements, it can not be a free floating building. The size of the platform is limited to 512 studs when you multiple two sides together. So when you multiple the length times the width the total stud number must not exceed 512. That is plenty of room for a 20 x 20 (400) stud platform and even a bit more. This allows you to choose what scale of rectangle you want, could be long and narrow or square.
*All parts used are limited to 500 pieces included the base stand for the scene. This is going to be tough, you have to build wisely.
*Deadline is July 31st at 11:59 pm CST (US) (GMT-6 hours I believe)
*Submit one photo 400 x 400 pixels, part count, and baseplate size to the submission thread. You are allowed to link other photos to your submission, but they will not be used in the judging.
Now we have the Magnificant Motorcycle shop part, time for the Mayhem, the prizes. Arealight is very generously offering the following:
1st- 1 custom cast scooter and a $30 (USD) credit to his BL store.
2nd- $20 (USD) credit to his BL store.
3rd- $10 (USD) credit to his BL store.
Just think of all the custom parts you could get, so get to building.
Questions????

Cool contest and cooler prizes!
What does it mean by "base platform"; you mean the base on which we build it, right?
I trust we need to have at least one bike in it, right?

base platform was used as it doesn't have be a baseplate, it could be several plates or severl bricks. The kicker is it has to add to that total area.
Yes it must contain at least one motorbike.

Thanks. You know, I was just recently thinking about Arealight's scooters...funny. I've got an idea, but the piece limit will be a challenge.

(I'm lucky enough to have one of Arealight's scoots in my hot little hands and I can honestly say it's one fine piece of custom yumminess. The fact that he's offering up one plus such large amounts of store credit is ridiculously nice.)
About the contest itself... Are custom non-LEGO elements allowed? In particular, I'm thinking like sheets of clear plastic for window panes or something along those lines: string, rubber bands, decals, paint, etc. If stuff like that is allowed, how would those be factored into the piece limit?
And the usual: Photoshopping? "Post-production" effects? Or are we limited to straight-up photography and whatever's achievable naturally?
Oh, and one more... How many parts do minifigs count as?

Since I've never entered a contest with part count, do we need to list every part we used to qualify, or do we tell you the parts?

Does the 500ct limit include the minifigs/bikes used? or can we count each of those as just 1 piece?

We need a part total, not a part list.
Minifigs and motorcycles can be customized. Bricks and buildings can not.
These can't be used for that reason, it would be impossible to count them in the part total. Photoshopping is fine. 1 complete figure = 1 part. Part count, not part list
Whole Figures count as 1 part.
Whole motorcycles count as 1 part.
So yes these go into the part count.

Decals and stickers are ok and do NOT add to the part count. Sorry missed that question.

Yes, Multiple entires are fine.
Just heard back from Arealight, lifelites are fine too. The lights and wires don't go into the part count, but all bricks, including the one that holds the lifelites brain do count.

One entry done, just need a pic.
Another question: Can we submit a picture without a roof to show the whole shop?

Hey, I'm new here (even though I'm a member of countless LEGO-related forums) and heard about the contest on The Brothers Brick and wanted to enter. I have some motorcycles and now think they will come to good use. I'll try to build something soon, though.

You can submit any photo you want. Just remember it will be this photo used to judge your submission so choose wisely. You can always link to other photos.
